Cornet Technology, Inc. Works Toward RoHS Compliance: April 10, 2006
Springfield, Va. -- April 10, 2006 -- Cornet Technology, Inc. (CTI), a principal provider of video, voice, and data communications, video conferencing and surveillance products, and IT services, today announced that it has set in motion a corporate-wide environmental protection plan aimed at compliance with the European Union’s (EU) Directive on the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) in electrical and electronic products. This plan emphasizes Cornet Technology’s commitment to designing, building, and shipping products that are in full compliance with RoHS, except where it is widely recognized that there is no immediate technically feasible alternative.
RoHS was initiated to handle concerns over human health and environmental risks associated with the use of certain environmentally sensitive materials in electronic products. The RoHS Directive will be implemented in the EU in July 2006 with 2010 targeted as the year for full compliance regarding the use of unleaded solder in telecommunications products. Similar legislation is also pending in China and various states in the U.S.
CTI’s products are designed for the telecommunications environment and presently fall under the exemption for products with leaded solder. The company is presently in compliance with the use of all other hazardous materials addressed in the directive and is working to meet the 2010 telecommunication products deadline.
Ed Siira, vice president of engineering, Cornet Technology, Inc., said, “As a manufacturer, Cornet Technology is constantly looking to adopt advanced manufacturing processes that have less of an impact on the environment. By incorporating the EU RoHS directive, and continuing to work with the local government, we are striving to take the steps necessary to minimize the impact our facility has on the local ecology while maintaining a high level of product quality.
